Strider Registration
When you launch Strider for the very first time, and until you register, you will be presented with a similar dialog:
If you just want to try Strider, click the Try it button. The very first time you try Strider, you are given 30 days to evaluate it. During the evaluation period, all the functions in the application work as if you had registered it, there is no crippled or disabled functions. Every time you will launch Strider, this dialog will be displayed. Just keep clicking the Try it button to continue to evaluate. After your evaluation period is over, you will, hopefully, want to purchase a license. Click the Purchase a license button. The following dialog will appear:
The purchase process is done in 3 easy steps:
1. Select license type
The first thing you have to decide is the type of license that fits your needs. The application currently supports 2 types of license:
- A single user license, for $12 USD ($14 USD through Kagi). The single user license is valid for a specific user on any Macintosh he might use, as long as he has the same user name on each computer. If you're the only user of your Macintosh, than this is the license for you.
- A computer-wide license, for $24 USD. The computer-wide license is good for people that have a single Macintosh that is shared by many users, i.e. each user has its own user account.
2. Copy required information
The 2nd step is to copy the required information to let us generate your registration number. Your user name or the Ethernet address of your Macintosh are used to generate your registration number, and will appear in the text field. If you want the single user license, remember that a user name of at least 4 characters is required. If your user name is less than 4 characters, you can easily modify it using the Accounts system preference pane. You will need administrator privileges to change the user name.
If you decided that the single user license is for you, you don't have anything to do and your user name will be displayed in the corresponding textfield in the dialog. Note that you can't modify your user name in this dialog. To modify your user name, you have to have administrator privileges and use the Accounts system preference. Now, skip the following sections and click here to continue.
If you want the computer-wide license, click the corresponding Computer-wide radio button. The Username textfield will change its label for Ethernet Address.
If you want the computer-wide license and have 2 different network interfaces, like regular Ethernet and AirPort, make sure that both interfaces are active. You can activate them in the Network preference pane in System Preferences. When the Network appears, click the Show popup that is usually set to Built-in Ethernet. Then, from the popup that appears, select Network Port Configurations. Just make sure that Built-in Ethernet and AirPort (if you have it) have a checkmark in the On column. Click the Apply Now button at the bottom of the window and quit System Preferences. Once both interfaces are active, relaunch Strider. If both interfaces are active when you launch Strider, the value in the Ethernet address textfield will show both addresses, so the registration number that we will generate will be good even if only one of the interface is active at any given time. There must be at least one network interface active for Strider to work.
Now that you have decided the type of license to buy, it is time to copy your user name or your Ethernet address(es). Click the Copy button to copy the value onto the pasteboard or clipboard. If you changed your network settings, click the Refresh button before clicking the Copy button.
3. Select payment type
The 3rd step is selecting the payment type. From the Purchase License dialog, there are 5 ways you can quickly pay: by check, money order, Kagi, eCount or Paypal. The PayPal button is the default button because it's the prefered way for payment. If you have installed Apple's Safari, clicking this button will open the built-in payment registration form. With PayPal payments, Strider has the ability to integrate all the needed information with the secured PayPal website and can manage the whole purchase process without the need to leave Strider in any way and without using your web browser at all. You will need an Internet connection for this to work. If you haven't installed Safari, this button will open the online version of the payment page in your prefered web browser, or you can provide the required information in the PayPal section below.
The Kagi button will take you directly to the Nemesys Software purchase page on the Kagi web site, so you will need an active Internet connection. Or you can click the Kagi button in the Kagi section below.
Note about the higher price on Kagi: Due to the higher fees taken by Kagi, I had to increase the price when you buy your registration number through Kagi. I did realize that Kagi retains $1.70 from every purchase to cover their fees, whereas PayPal will charge me about $0.50 for the same transaction amount. On a $12 sale, that makes quite a difference, and unfortunately, I can't afford to lose more money, specially on such a small amount. You can still pay $12 USD through all other payment systems, though.
If you prefer to pay by check or money order, skip to the check/money order section.
(The above fields are only for purchases through PayPal. If you choose to go to PayPal directly, use nemesys.soft@verizon.net for the registered email address)
For Kagi purchase, click the following link:
(A field will allow you to enter or paste your user name or the Ethernet address on the Kagi purchase page)
If you click the Check/M. O. button, you will be presented with the following dialog:
At this time, we can accept personal or company check if they are drawn from a U.S. bank account. We also accept cashier check only if they are drawn from a U.S. bank account. Finally, we accept postal money order as long as they are in U.S. funds.
Fill all the information required in the dialog. When you're done, click the Print button. This will print the form. Write your check, cashier check or money order to Laurent Daudelin, not Nemesys Software. Then, put the printed form along with your check, cashier check or money order in an enveloppe that you will address to:
Nemesys Software
1007 Hertford St.
Herndon, VA 20170-3118
U.S.A.
Note that personal and business checks will be held for up to 10 business days to clear. Once everything is in order, you should expect an email from us with your registration number. It is very important that your email address is valid because we won't be able to reply by mail, only email.
Note about the registration process: some of you might wonder why going through all those steps and why having registration numbers based on user names or Ethernet addresses. The reason is simple: piracy. It is my experience that if your registration number isn't based on something that can be verified, upon which you can validate said registration number, you can be sure that registration numbers will start appearing on some web sites, newsgroups discussions, and particularly on Carracho servers. At $12 and $24, I can't afford to lose any sale, unfortunately.
Upon payment confirmation, you can expect to receive your personal registration number within 24 to 48 hours, but usually I will send it to you a few hours after I receive the confirmation. Please, make sure that no SPAM filter is active from your Internet Service Provider or in your email software.
Once you have your registration number, you have to enter it in Strider. From the initial dialog that is displayed, click the Enter registration number. The following dialog will appear:
Select the license type you did purchase.
Then, copy or type exactly as it was sent to you the registration number.
Click the Register button. A dialog should thank you and you will be set!
