NewtGrocery is the perfect helper in the grocery store, on your Newton MessagePad. Here are some screenshots to let you see what it can do:

This is the overview. From this screen, you have access to the information that will let you cruise the grocery store aisles quickly! The first icon on the left of every product lets you know if you have found this product or not. You then have the section where you find this product, the aisle number, the name of the product, the brand, if applicable, the buying quantity, the format and the price.

At the bottom of the screen, you can see the Show popup. This popup lets you select which products you want to see. If you select Items Not Found, then everytime you tap the small icon on the left for a given product, this product will be marked as found, and therefore, will be hidden from the list. You only see the products you have to find.

There is also another popup that is obscured by the Show popup. This other popup is called Sort and, as its title says, it lets you sort the product according to various criterias, like the store, the section and the aisle. Since this software is still under development, the layout or/and information in the overview may still change.

This is the detail view. This view lets you modify all the various attributes of a given product. There is even a price comparator in the middle of the screen that lets you compare various format and lets you find quickly which one is more advantageous for you.

There are also various editors that let you enter the information that you use frequently. Here, you can see the Sections editor and the Stores editor, that let you add/modify/remove the sections of the stores and the stores themselves. Then, whenever you add a new product, the relevant attributes are just a tap away!

Requirements:

This application will require a MessagePad running the Newton OS version 2.x. The application requires about 70K of storage on your MessagePad.

News and Updates

• 6/9/00 6:00pm: A lame bug is affecting all new users
  I have received numerous emails about a problem that new users experience the first time they try to open NewtGrocery. I don't know at this time what the bug is, but I'm currently investigate it and will post a new version and an short message once I think I nail it down. Thanks for your patience and I apologize for the false start.
• 6/9/00 8:00pm: The bug has been found and fixed!
  I was able to easily replicate the bug and did fix it. You can grab the new version, 1.0b8, from the above links.
• 6/12/00 11:00pm: New version 1.0b9 released
  I've released a new version, the 1.0b9. This version fixes a problem where if you scrub a quantity from the detail view and then switch to the overview, you would get an error. I also restored the text label for the 5 main sections in the default view. That made me realize, this and other emails too, that the documentation should prove useful. For instance, how many of you know that if you tap a header in the overview, a little window will appear and will let you select what you want displayed in that column, as long as the width in pixel? That's only one hidden feature from many others. So, expect to see an online manual soon.
• 6/17/00 3:00am: Online Manual Available
  I finally put the last touch to the NewtGrocery online manual. To get the most out of NewtGrocery, I encourage you to have a look, at least the Quick Start section. Again, if you find any broken links, let me know by sending me email at laurent.daudelin@verizon.net. I should put a downloadable version soon.
• 6/30/00 11:00pm: Final Release!
  I was finally able to put this final release out of the door just in time for the expiration of the public beta period. I was also able to fix a bug preventing the usage of the Memo field, in the Detail view. You can download this new version directly from this page. To everybody that tried it: thanks! I really appreciate.
  Note to beta testers: the first time you will launch NewtGrocery, it will require that you enter your registration number, since the 30 days period is over. There was unfortunately nothing I could do about this, since I designed the application originally for 30 days trial.
  Finally, this will be a great test for me. I will be able to assess the number of Newton users that are interested in seeing new applications released for the Newton platform. I already have an idea for a new application. This application would roughly update the currency exchange rates from the Internet. I have not started that application yet, so no need to send me information on that application just yet, since it will depend on how NewtGrocery will perform!
• 5/28/04: I decided to release the application freely. You still need the registration number, but the registration number generator application is included in the downloadable project. This is a Stuffit X archive of the Macintosh version of the Newton Toolkit projects of the main NewtGrocery application and its companion registration generator application.
